Storage and Stability

Protocol (For Reference Only)

2. Heat Inactivation (Optional): If required for specific cell types, heat inactivate the serum at 56¡ãC for 30 minutes with gentle mixing. Swirl the bottle every 10 minutes to ensure uniform heating. Allow to cool to room temperature before use.

3. Aliquoting: For convenience, aliquot the thawed serum into single-use volumes and store at -20¡ãC. Thawed aliquots may be stored at 4¡ãC for up to 4-6 weeks.

4. Medium Supplementation: Add FBS to basal culture medium at a typical final concentration of 5-20%, depending on cell type and experimental requirements. Mix gently by swirling.

5. Storage of Complete Medium: Complete medium supplemented with FBS should be stored at 4¡ãC and used within 2-4 weeks.

Precautions

1. Do not thaw serum at temperatures above 37¡ãC as excessive heat may degrade growth factors and promote precipitate formation.

2. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles; aliquot into single-use volumes after initial thawing.
